PANDIT GOPAL PRASAD DUBEY PADMASHRI
(Chhau dance exponent/choreographer)

I Gopal Prasad Dubey had born Seraikella, in the state of Jharkhand, India. My Grandfather was a performer in the troupe that provided entertainment at the Royal Palace in the Seraikella before the current Seraikella Chhau dance form was established. From the age of 14 I began studying the basics of dance and music with the famous Seraikella Chhau dancer Late Guru Natasekhar Banbihari Pattanayak, and Guru Padma Shri Rajkumar S.N. Singhdeo and Padma Shri Guru Kedar Nath Sahoo.

I have also received training from some of the outstanding teachers of our time is today recognized as one of the most celebrated among the contemporary exponents of Seraikella Chhau. As a teacher, I had been responsible for grooming some of the highly talented Chhau dancers of the present time. As a choreographer, I had created a number of well-known dance dramas and solo dance pieces. I have also worked with mainstream cinema as well as experimental theatre and films.

I had been showered with scholarships, fellowship and honors of performing as well as lecturing and conducting Master classes and workshops at some of the world's envied festivals and universities.

Awards And Honours

Information and broadcasting (I & B) Government of India and Shri Buddhadeb Das Gupta the great Director and the national award winner for his many films is making a film on me (CHHAU dance Exponent Padmashri Pandit Gopal Prasad Dubey) of Seraikella. The film will also focus Seraikella, Jharkhand and its glories culture of heritage of Chhau Dance. This is definitely a big honor for Seraikella as it is a collaborative project of Government of India and by Shri Buddhadeb Das Gupta.

Lecture Demonstration and Workshop

I have held numerous workshops and master teacher in several prestigious institutions in India and abroad. In India, I have held several workshops for school in New Delhi under the aegis of Spic Macay on 1984. I have worked as Faculty in the department of Indian Theatre at Punjab University, Chandigarh.

I had a Lecture demonstration at Alliance Francaise de Bangalore at 2009, MES Keshori Kendra college 2010, Malleswaram, Bangalore 2010, Yavanika youth and Cultural/sports Bangalore 2010, Workshop seminar at central Institute of Indian Language Mysore 2010, Workshop at Navrag Theatre group, Baroda and Cochin, Kerala 2010. I had a workshop in Nehru Centre Bombay 1989, workshop and training at Sopanam 1980, Trivandrum, Kerala.

Internationally, I had taught at Kansas University, Indian University of Pennsylvania, Harvard University, University of London, Chungang University of Seoul, Institute of Dramatic arts Seoul, Theatre group Inchon City in South Korea, Multi cultural centre of Inchon City, American College of Greece. Recently I have conducted workshop on Chhau Movements to Drishti Foundation Bangalore.Recently I have attended Seminar on Seraikella chhau (Unmasking the tradition) on 18th and 19th of Jan 2013 organize by Sudhaaya Foundation New Delhi by Ms. Shagun Butani.
